MOMS ON METH - Grey Areas 12”
(2013, France, Flower Of Carnage +4)
French HC strikes again with more of the worst band names ever. Actually, I heard this band changed their name to something even worse. Thankfully for you, I can’t remember it right now. This is actually a well played and powerful HC album. It’s very late 90s sounding to my ears, influenced by a mish-mosh of styles, from power-violence to sludge to thrash to chugga-chugga SXE to death metal. My favorite part about the band by far, is the woman on vocals. Her powerful voice gives this record a little something different to make it a little more interesting. A good record, and I bet an enjoyable live band, but honestly, I could like this a lot more if the songwriting was more focused and less all over the place. More dirty influence from maybe Siege, Crossed Out and Eyehategod would do it for me. But hey, I get the impression that MOM were here to have fun, be part of the scene and get some frustration out, so fuck it, they don’t need to hear my malarkey.
